Unlocking LinkedIn – Building Traffic For Businesses

Thanks to Lewis Howes (a sportsman turned LinkedIn master) for the very clear presentation on how to build traffic for business using LinkedIn. These are the notes taken during the Live Webinar “How to Build Your Business Leveraging LinkedIn with Lewis Howes” on 21 June 9 am (Singapore time).

A. Build your list

Connections …Aim for a larger, more targeted network.
You can download email addresses from LinkedIn (vs facebook). This is good for building business contacts.

There is a way to rank in LinkedIn for proper keywords. Optimise your profile with keywords.

B. Ingredients to thousands of leads

1. Create your own groups – to attract more leads. This allows you to distribute your information (2-4 hours a month), build your own empire on LinkedIn.
2. Share with them your content and strategies. The ‘Owner’ of the group can send a message to the members once a week.
3. What the group owner can do: Send an announcement (once a week) e.g. promotion of 30 mins free consulting, etc. facebook can’t do this. You can also create templates for your announcement. e.g. Welcome message
4. Set 30 mins a week to maintain your LinkedIn groups every month.

C. Answers

A targeted way to increase traffic and a powerful way to get customers.  Click on “More”, and find “Answers” in drop-down menu. Then go to the browse section, choose industry you are in. The more you answer questions, the more people will look up to you as experts. (e.g. Marketing and Sales, or other relevant industry)

e.g. Give the best answer possible. Write negative answers in the best way. E.g. “No, but here is the best way to do it.” Don’t spam. Also, send an email to say you have replied publically.

Reply publically, then, reply privately.

E.g. “I’m more than happy to jump on the phone… to show you step by step. I notice that your profile is missing this..I’d love to share with you…I have some sources, if you are interested, which have taken my team some time and strategy.”

Secret: LinkedIn Today is LinkedIn’s effort to be a content site more than a network site, the more people hang out there, the more money LinkedIn can make via ads.
How does an article go to the top of my page? Add “share” button. People share articles through LinkedIn to their friends. LinkedIn is in Top 10 sites in the world. Sharing an article many times will end it up in top spots in LinkedIn Today.
Share the article link in your update status. Copy and paste the headline and click on ‘Share’.
Then click on ‘Activity’, then ‘Share’, and then check the ‘Post to group’ option.
